What Is The Best Partner For Dial Indicator?
Jul 11, 2025|
As we all know, dial indicators are common measuring tools in daily life. However, not many people are aware of what products they need to be used in combination with. Today, I will provide a detailed explanation for everyone.
Generally, the back cover has two types: flat cover and one with ears. But when it comes to precision measurement, it is recommended to use the one with ears. This is because only the one with ears can be used together with a magnetic dial indicator holder. The bottom of the holder usually has a magnetic surface, which can be attached to the measuring instrument to fix its position and hold the dial indicator securely. This helps to minimize any movement and thus achieve the best accuracy in measurement.
Many people may overlook the fact that the holes for dial indicators also come in different sizes, specifically metric and imperial.
The standard metric size has a lower sleeve diameter of 8mm, while the imperial version has a diameter of 9.5mm. When purchasing a holder, it is crucial to confirm whether you need a metric or a universal metric/imperial clamping hole. By default, most holders are designed with an 8mm metric hole. For universal metric/imperial holes, a copper ring is added. If you need to use a metric size of the indicator, you can simply remove this copper ring.
If you have an imperial model but accidentally purchased a holder with an 8mm hole, don't worry. You can still buy an additional accessory to fit it properly, and this will not affect its use.
