Feature

The precision dial caliper with shock-proof is composed of a main scale, a frame, measuring jaws and a dial plate…etc. The main scale is for rough measurement to get the integer part of the measurement. The scale frame can slide along the main scale, driving the measuring jaws for measurement. The measuring jaws are divided into inner measuring jaws and outer measuring jaws, which are used to measure the inner diameter and outer diameter, etc. The dial plate is connected to the frame through a rack and pinion mechanism. It can convert the tiny movement of the measuring jaws into the rotation of the pointer, thus displaying the decimal part of the measurement.

Compared with the vernier caliper, the reading of precision dial caliper is simpler: The measured value is directly displayed by the pointer on the dial and can be quickly and accurately obtained. It requires relatively low skills of the operator. Especially, during batch measurements, it can greatly improve work efficiency.

1) Observe the graduation line on the main scale that aligns with the "0" graduation line of the scale frame. The scale value on the main scale corresponding to this graduation line is the integer part of the measured value. For example, if the "0" graduation line of the scale frame is close to the 20mm graduation line on the main scale, the integer part is 20mm.

2) Check the scale indicated by the pointer on the dial. The scale on the dial usually divides 1mm into 100 grids (with a division value of 0.01mm), 50 grids (with a division value of 0.02mm), or 20 grids (with a division value of 0.05mm). Determine the decimal value corresponding to the position indicated by the pointer according to the division value of the dial. For example, if the division value of the dial is 0.02mm and the pointer points to the 15th grid, then the decimal part is 0.02×15 = 0.30mm.

3) Add the integer part and the decimal part which is the measured value of the precision dial caliper In the above example, adding the integer part of 20mm and the decimal part of 0.30mm, the final measured value is 20.30mm.

FAQ

1. How do you clean dial calipers?

Cleaning a dial caliper is an important step to ensure its accuracy and extend its life. Here are the brief steps to clean a precision dial caliper:

Prepare tools: Prepare a clean soft cloth (such as a microfiber cloth) and some mild detergent (such as soapy water). Avoid using strong acid or strong alkaline detergents to avoid damaging the caliper surface.

Close the caliper: Before cleaning, completely close the measuring jaws of the caliper to ensure that the measuring surface is not damaged during cleaning.

Clean the outside: Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the outside of the caliper, including the main scale, sliding jaws and dial to remove dust and dirt.

Clean the measuring surface: Use a clean cloth or cotton swab to gently wipe the contact surface of the measuring jaws to ensure that there is no dirt. Avoid using hard objects to prevent scratching on measuring surface.

Check the dial: Gently wipe the surface with a cloth, and ensure that the pointer can move freely.

Drying: After cleaning, make sure the caliper is completely dry, especially the metal part to prevent rust.

Storage: After cleaning, put the caliper back into the box to avoid friction with other tools to maintain its accuracy.

Regular cleaning and proper maintenance can ensure the accuracy and life of the dial caliper during use.

2. What is a dial caliper used for?

As a commonly used precision measuring tool, the dial caliper plays a crucial role in many fields:

Mechanical Manufacturing and Processing: It can accurately measure dimensions such as the outer diameter, inner diameter, length, and thickness of mechanical parts. For example, in the manufacturing of automobile engines, dial calipers are used to measure the inner diameter of the cylinder barrel and the diameter of the piston to ensure the fitting accuracy of the parts and guarantee the engine performance.

Electronic Equipment Manufacturing: Electronic components are small in size, and the dial caliper can meet their measurement needs. On the production line, it is used to inspect the dimensional accuracy of electronic components, pick unqualified products out and ensure product quality. For example, in mobile phone production, the dimensional accuracy of the outer shell and internal structural parts is inspected.

Mold Manufacturing: High precision is required in mold manufacturing. Dial calipers are used to measure the dimensions of the mold cavity and core to ensure the accuracy and quality of the mold, and ensure that injection - molded, stamped, and other molded products meet the design requirements.

Assembly Adjustment: When assembling the mold, dial calipers are used to measure the matching dimensions of each component for adjustment and assembly, ensuring smooth opening and closing of the mold and high molding accuracy.

Teaching and Scientific Research: In experimental courses such as physics and mechanics in schools, the dial caliper serves as a basic measuring tool, enabling students to master length measurement methods and techniques, and understand measurement principles and error analysis.
